Our Lady of the Wayside, dedicated to the patron saint of travellers, waits patiently
on a high bog plateau in Creeragh, on the N59 between Letterfrack to Leenane.
The Church was designed by Clifden based architect Leo Mansfield Dip.Arch.MRIAI and built when the Rev. Fr. Quinn was Parish Priest in Ballinakill and dedicated in 1968. The Church is an unpretentious but distinguished example of modern church architecture, striking and unexpected to the eye of the visitor, but wholly in harmony with the dramatic landscape around it. The interior is simple and well detailed, with a stain glass window by Phyllis Burke of Dublin and tabernacle and crucifix by Patrick McElroy of Dublin.
